Chapter Six, Page One
Welcome to the brave new world of colored lineart, painted backgrounds, and domestic BP officers. If you have any comments or questions or concerns about the new art [or the comic in general!] please feel free to leave them here! I am very excited about the new colors and very much appreciate feedback.
More to come next Friday! As always, thank you for reading.
I like the colors, especially against dark backgrounds. The only critique I’d make is that the softness and thicker lines makes the characters a little harder to parse and separate from the background. It gives the panels a hazy, dreamlike feel (which you may or may not want when there’s action going on). Might just be me, though.
Overall the comic looks awesome as always. 😀
and lol, “feed the cat”
I definitely agree! I’m still experimenting with the lines but it definitely needs more clarity. Still finding a balance between that nice sketchy feel and making sure the action is still easy to follow.
🙂 So glad to have feedback from an artist I admire!
holy crap, I never replied here! Sorry! I had a long reply that I was waffling over and never actually posted. I fail at human communication. >.>
Here’s what I was writing up:
hm… my suggestion would be to use contrast and sharper lines/harder-edged brushes (or filters and layer masks, or whatever works) as a way to make readers look where you want them to. Like in the first panel of page 7 – my eyes go to Seamus’s face right away, not sure if it’s because the lines are actually sharper or just higher contrast. But then in panel 2 it took me a second to notice Freddie’s bandages, because the lines seem softer and everything kind of fades together more.
Thank you for the compliment! The admiration is definitely mutual!
Ooh, thank you for the examples. Very helpful! I’ll keep messing with sharper lines and contrast as I head into the next chapter. Thanks for talking shop!
